It should be stressed, of course, that it’s entirely possible - probable, even - that the picture quality of the Avengers: Infinity War disc releases will still look excellent even without support for Dolby Vision or IMAX ratios. And now reliable sources are confirming what was at hinted at in the press release: namely that even the film’s 3D Blu-ray release will not support the IMAX ratio, despite previous 3D Marvel releases doing so. As I covered in a story a few weeks ago, Marvel fans have set up a petition asking Disney to start delivering 4K Blu-rays of Marvel films with at least the option to watch sequences shot using the large-format IMAX system in their original aspect ratio, rather than only being able to watch the straight 2.39:1 ratio created for non-IMAX cinemas.ĭisney’s press release on Avengers: Infinity War, though, stated that the film was going to be sticking with the 2.39:1 ratio on 4K Blu-ray.
